GATES NUTRITION ADVOCACY PROJECT ORGANIZES COMMUNITY TOWN HALL MEETING TO FACILITATE CITIZEN'S ENGAGEMENT ON DEMAND CREATION FOR NUTRITIONAL SERVICES IN TWO PILOT LGA’S (SOBA AND JABA) WARD DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEES IN KADUNA STATE
Malnutrition and Nutrition related diseases continue to be problems of great public health importance in Kaduna State. Despite being the third income generating state out of 36 States with GDP of $1,666, 56.7% of children Under-five years with a staggering 613,686 children stunted (NDHS 2013).
The objective of this activity carried out by the Nutrition Adviser, Isah Maru, Advocacy and Campaign Manager Oluseyi Abejide was to engage members of the Ward Development Committees in mobilizing stakeholders and community members on awareness creation with regards to nutrition services and the need to demand for these services to enable an emergence of healthy and well-nourished children within the selected local government areas. Community members in Soba and Jaba LGA's were also made to understand the existence and magnitude of malnutrition among women and children in their respective political wards. Caregivers knowledge was improved on the danger of feeding children under five years with infant formula food their understanding was also strengthened on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding among new born children.
